On 25 November 2021, members of the SHERPA EU Multi-Actor Platform (MAP) met online to discuss the key points raised by SHERPA MAPs working on the topic of ‘Change in production and diversification of the rural economy’.
In 2021, eight SHERPA Multi-Actor Platforms (MAPs) focused their work on the topic ‘Change in production and diversification of the rural economy’. They discussed challenges and opportunities related to this topic and indicated the directions in which it is most appropriate and feasible to address local needs. This was done by following three guiding questions:
- What are the key needs for the development of the rural economy in your MAP, and how can they be addressed most effectively?
- How can policy interventions support positive changes in the diversification of the rural economy, considering solutions that are needed at the local and national levels, and any implications for the wider policy framework (European Union level or others)? What can public administrations (at all levels) do to facilitate and encourage these changes?
- What are the research needs and gaps?
The results of the discussions are documented in the MAP Position Papers, which will feed into a SHERPA Position Paper on the matter. The papers will become available on the website.
Members of the EU MAP reflected on these results and provided suggestions and comments on how to formulate these into recommendations for policy and research.
The SHERPA Position Paper on ‘Change in production and diversification of the rural economy’ will be available in the first quarter of 2022.
