About the MAP
In Italy, the research group of Agricultural and Food Economics at the University of Pisa coordinates the Multi-Actor Platform Casentino. This newly established platform, which has been initiated by two mayors from the Casentino area together with some researchers from the University of Pisa, operates at a regional level.
The rural areas of the Eastern part of Tuscany are affected by depopulation, youth outmigration and difficult access to basic services. However, a lot of opportunities can be identified, which are related to a well-developed agricultural sector and manufacturing industry. This region is also an attractive tourism destination due to the large wooded area designated as the National Park “Foreste Casentinesi”.
The MAP Casentino will focus its activities on entrepreneurship, social economy, just transition and sustainable value chains.
