About the MAP
In Italy, the research group of Agricultural and Food Economics at the University of Pisa coordinates the Montagna Toscana-MOVING Multi-Actor Platform. This newly established platform, which has synergies with the sister project H2020 MOVING operating in the same area, has a sub-regional scope.
A broad of mountainous area across 3 different provinces (Lucca, Massa-Carrara, Pistoia) and different localities with their own identity (Garfagnana, Media Valle del Serchio, Alta Versilia, Lunigiana and Appennino Pistoiese) are the places in which the MAP will carry out its activities. They will be focus mainly on sustainable agri-food value chains.
Depopulation, low access to basic services, ageing, and loss of economic activity are some issues that affect the whole area.
Objectives
The activities of this MAP are designed to achieve the following specific objectives:
- MAP objective 1: Contribute to the analysis of the chestnut value chain in the MOVING project, expanding the analysis to the broader area identified and the stakeholders involved.
- MAP objective 2: Improve the understanding of the interrelations between the agri-food value chains and local socio-ecological systems.
- MAP objective 3: Develop recommendations for local and regional policy makers on rural development linked to the topic of sustainable agri-food value chains (focus on local varieties of chestnut).
- MAP objective 4: Publish a MAP Position Paper.
