In the implementation process of the new Common Agricultural Policy (CAP), Member States had to submit their national CAP Strategic Plans before 31 December 2021. DG AGRI published the plans of the 22 EU countries that made them publicly available. The Commission has now six months to approve the plans ahead of their implementation in January 2023.
The National Strategic Plans should combine a wide range of targeted interventions addressing the specific needs of that country and deliver tangible results in relation to EU-level objectives, while contributing to the ambitions of the European Green Deal. The Commission will assess whether the Member States’ CAP Strategic Plans contribute to, and are consistent with, EU legislation and commitments in relation to climate and the environment, including those laid out in the Farm to Fork and Biodiversity strategies.
The aim of that procedure is to support farmers in their transition towards increased sustainability in food systems and to achieve the ten specific CAP objectives. They touch upon environmental, social and economic challenges, as well as a cross-cutting objective on knowledge and innovation.
SHERPA tool Timeline for EU programming offers an overview of the process stages by Member State, based on the information collected by the SHERPA partners.
At the moment of writing this short news, there were still 3 Member States who had not submitted their CAP Strategic Plans to the European Commission.
