On 20 May 2020, the European Commission published its Farm to Fork Strategy for a fair, healthy and environmentally-friendly food system. The strategy sets out both regulatory and non-regulatory initiatives, with the common agricultural and fisheries policies as key tools to support a just transition to sustainable food systems.
A legislative framework proposal will be put forward to support the implementation of the strategy. To enable and accelerate the transition to healthier and more sustainable EU food system, advisory services, financial instruments, but also research and innovation will be fundamental to further develop and test solutions, overcome barriers and uncover new market opportunities.
The Research Service of the European Parliament has published an in-depth analysis of the strategy to explore the possible implications of the Farm to Fork Strategy for agriculture and the CAP.
