MAPs Cluster on ‘Change in production and Diversification of the economy’

SHERPA MAPs
07/06/2021

Facilitators and Monitors from SHERPA Multi-Actor Platforms (MAPs) met online  to discuss and share updates on the work carried out on the second cycle topic of ‘Change in production and diversification of the economy’.

During the meeting Ellen Bulten (Wageningen University) facilitated the exchange of experiences among the SHERPA MAPs around the following questions: (i) how the work is going, (ii) which are the changes in composition of the MAP, (iii) how do the MAPs plan to establish linkages to local, regional or national policy processes, and (iv) which are the next steps in the MAP cycle.

MAPs are working on adapting the specific discussion paper developed in the project to incorporate the regional context.

In terms of their composition, the MAPs are in conversation with related ministerial areas and new policy actors. They are interested in strengthening the involvement of young people, small enterprises and entrepreneurs, NGOs and other local active actors to better represent actors in rural areas.

MAPs commented on the update status of their Dynamic Action Plans (DAP) and the actions to establish links with main policy processes. Some MAPs have strong ties with local and/or rural policy levels already, while others are working to establish such relationships in the coming MAP cycle. Those with strong policy ties highlighted having meetings with rural councils, as well as involving research centres that collaborate with different policy levels. In addition, they are following the design of Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) and stay in contact with people who are working on the CAP national Strategic Plans.
